The city in the bay of the same name has everything to offer that makes a stay in northern Jamaica unforgettable. At the mouth of the Montego River, holidaymakers enjoy fantastic beaches, modern marinas, extensive golf courses and pure reggae feeling. The 110,000 inhabitants call their home only briefly MoBay. The navigator Christopher Columbus landed in Montego Bay for the first time in 1494 and gave it the name "Gut Wetter Bucht". Here the beaches White Sands and Doctor's Cave are very popular with tourists. Especially in the winter months Montego Bay is a popular holiday resort for wealthy Americans.

With its restaurants, shops and hotels, Gloucester Avenue welcomes travellers to Montego Bay. Duty Free Shops on St. James Street leave hardly any wish unfulfilled. Crossing the North Gully Canal brings you to the city centre. The heart of the metropolis beats around the parade ground Sam Sharpe Square. Here is the oldest preserved building, the "Cage". Once the stone house built in 1806 served as a prison. Today money is changed here.

In Montego Bay the most beautiful church of the Caribbean island can be visited. Originally the St. James Parish Church was built in the 18th century. In 1957 an earthquake destroyed the building. After a reconstruction true to the original it is worthwhile to have a look at the extraordinary interior with wonderful glass windows.

Worth seeing is Ra Natango Galery and Garden. The botanical idyll is 15 minutes away from Montego Bay and can be reached by shuttle bus. The exotic garden offers visitors a fantastic panoramic view. Amidst the lush vegetation you can watch hummingbirds. Among Jamaicans, this award-winning natural paradise with restaurant is considered the most romantic island resort for a wedding.

An excursion into the past of Montego Bay leads to Accompong. In times of Spanish conquerors the mountain village became a refuge for freed slaves. The descendants are called Leeward-Maroons. In the touristy Old Town spices, medicinal herbs, fruits and teas are offered. At the YS Falls, a charming natural spectacle awaits guests.

One hour from Montego Bay, tourists are taken by covered wagon to one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island. Those who wish to refresh themselves in the middle of the tropical climate of the rainforest in crystal clear floods can bathe in Mayfield Falls. Impressive mansions like Rose Hall and Good Hope Great House are recommended. Vacationers can experience the original and exotic Jamaica near Montego Bay on Croydon Plantation. The Cinnamon Golf Course is impressive. Bird lovers visit the Rocklands Bird Sanctuary Park.
