Miami is considered a city with many faces. The metropolis is known for its diverse entertainment and first-class restaurants, legendary nightlife and white sandy beaches. The southernmost tip of Florida attracts six million travelers from all over the world every year. In this exotic paradise, Miami presents itself modern, stylish and lively. Many celebrities and artists are attracted by the glamorous atmosphere.

Under Caribbean, Latin American and European influences a remarkable international gastronomy scene developed. The place name is derived from the Indian word for "big water", because the Indian tribe Mayaimi lives nearby. The city is the second largest in the state of Florida. It is located on the Miami River in Biscayne Bay. The majority of over 400,000 inhabitants speak Spanish. In the tourist centers, English is spoken predominantly.

Miami has a tropical monsoon climate
The rainy season from May to October runs approximately at the same time as the hurricane season in the Atlantic. In addition, the warm Gulf Stream provides temperatures up to 35 degrees. But sea winds and thunderstorms counteract the high humidity. Water temperatures average 26 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

Miami was founded in 1896
In the same year the first hotel was built and the tourist influx began. After that a tree boom started. The skyscrapers of the 1920s temporarily gave the city the nickname "Magic City". Even today, the Art Deco Destrict, which includes 1,000 buildings, stretches from Southbeach to Meridian Avenue. The trendy districts of Wynwood and Design Destrict in Miami are brand new. Tourist attractions include the Cuban district Little Havana and Seaquarium on Virginia Key. Two national parks, the Everglade and Biscayne National Parks, offer natural highlights.

The Miami Zoo, the jungle islands of Monkey and Parrot, and the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden are also worth a visit. If you want to learn more about the history of the region, the Barnacle State Historic Site and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens are interesting options. Miami is rich in modern art museums like the Frost Art Museum or the Bass Museum of Art. Since 2002, the city has been a much frequented location for the Art Basel fair.

One of the country's landmarks is the Freedom Tower, built in 1925 in memory of Cuban immigrants. Miami is considered a paradise for connoisseurs with many street cafés. For shopping, Lincoln Road or the luxurious shopping mall of the Bal Harbour Shops are convincing. The Miami airport is located about eleven kilometers from the city center. On the waterway, the city is called the gateway to the Caribbean. It has one of the world's largest ports for cruises. Watson Island Park offers an impressive view of the incoming and outgoing ships.

Miami's public transportation network is well developed with Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover.If the fine sandy beaches along Ocean Drive do not offer enough variety, you can join a diving trip to Key West. The unique coral reefs are among the world's most beautiful diving and snorkeling areas. Another day trip leads to Orlando to the largest amusement park in the world. South Beach can also be discovered on a sightseeing flight. Those who want to swim with dolphins will find the unique opportunity to do so at the Miami Seaquarium.
