The city is the most famous tourist destination in Puerto Rico and a good starting point to visit the island. San Juan is also the busiest cruise port in the Caribbean. As a cultural center there are many festivals and events throughout the year. Locals come to town for these and visitors are encouraged to join in the fun.

El Viejo San Juan
This is the old picture of the city and sends the guest back to the colonial times. He should bring some comfortable shoes, as there are a lot of cobblestones to walk over. At the streets there are bright, candy-coloured houses. There is a picturesque harbour district, centuries-old castles, museums, charming squares, excellent restaurants and shops and boutiques for shopping.

The new city of San Juan
This has developed into the metropolis of the Caribbean and continues to grow. It offers guests the amenities and entertainment of a modern and lively city with tempting tropical beaches, luxurious beach hotels, world-class restaurants and a hot nightlife. Ocean Park and Condado, as well as the nearby Isla Verde, are popular tourist destinations. Here you can enjoy busy city life as well as a relaxing escape in new San Juan.

Tropical sun, beach and sights
During the weekdays, the beaches of San Juan are not as busy as during the weekends. There is space to relax for miles with amenities for every taste. Chic and trendy at Condado or more casual at Ocean Park. Photogenic is the Escambron with its hundreds of palm trees and crystal clear water. The Castillo San Felipe del Morro is worth a visit and the wonderful view over the Atlantic Ocean.

Surely a visit to the Bacardi Distellery can provide insights not only for the welcome drink. Then there is the Spanish Castillo San Cristobal, which has defended San Juan for more than 300 years. Interesting are the tunnels at sunset. Real rain forest can be seen a little further from the city in El Yunque. Rock carvings of the Taino people, long before the Colombian time, can be seen in La Cuva del Indio Höhel. At Acrecibo Observatory unknown objects are observed with a giant radio telescope. San Juan in Puerto Rico is waiting.
