When it comes to vacations in Turkey, there are many popular destinations. But only few are as popular as Marmaris. The city is located in the southwest of the country and for all those who are looking for sun, shopping and a lively nightlife, the city offers a good price/performance ratio. Along the beach there are numerous restaurants, bars and clubs, many of which are cheaper than in other vacation destinations. And for those who like shopping, Marmaris offers many opportunities to take home a bargain.

Accommodation and local customs
The beach is maintained with great dedication, but there are certainly some hotels or resorts that are more suitable for relaxing and sunbathing. Popular are water sports with the usual jet skis, paragliding or diving for the more adventurous. In the beach area, where the majority of the nightclubs are located, it can be quite hectic at night. If you are looking for pure relaxation, you are better off in Icmeler, a few kilometers to the south on a quiet beach.
For vacationers the beautiful port city offers hotels, resorts and apartments in all price ranges. Families, couples and elderly people are especially welcome here, but of course you will also meet single travelers. Marmaris has a rich cultural heritage. An important tradition is the prayer time. The locals pray up to five times a day. The local cuisine is also traditionally good. Among the things that travelers should definitely try are ice cream, apple tea and the local beer.
Shopping and other activities
For travelers Marmaris is ideal for shopping. The best opportunities to get a bargain are found in the old town with its medieval Ottoman streets. Leather goods, jewelry and carpets are particularly inexpensive here. Bargaining for the price is not only welcome but positively expected. Often the trader offers the buyer tea or coffee before he lets him buy something. For all those who
the old town has a beautiful castle and a museum. The museum houses amphorae, figures, oil lamps and other finds from the surrounding archaeological cities such as Knidos and Datça. From the walls of the castle you have a great view of the busy marina. Those who want to do something can join organized horseback riding or fishing trips or explore the surrounding coast by boat or yacht. Also an authentic Turkish bath should not be missed.
Transport and weather
Mini-buses run on different routes through the city. The color indicates which route the buses take through the city. To take a bus, you give the driver a signal that you want to go with the bus. You pay directly to the driver. For a trip on the water, water cabs, catamarans or boats are available. The latter can also be used for a trip to Greece. For a trip to the hinterland, public transportation, cabs or rental cars can be used. In summer it can get very hot in Marmaris.

For the walk to the beach headgear and sun protection are therefore quite important. Also a first-aid kit should not be missing in your luggage. Medicine is quite expensive to get in the village. The city has about 28,000 inhabitants, in the summer months often over a quarter of a million people spend their vacations here. The nearest airport Dalaman, about 100 km away from Marmaris, is served by all major charter airlines. For transfers there is a shuttle service or private providers.
